Are Perineural Injections Right for Your Pain?

March 21, 20242 min read

Are you having a pain that just doesn’t some to go away, that feels like it’s burning, stabbing, zapping or maybe even tingling? You may be in need of perineural injections.

So what are perineural injections? Perineural injections are a form of regenerative medicine therapy used to treat and calm down inflamed nerves. Often nerves can become inflamed and irritated due to a multitude of reasons. A more common example would be having chronic muscle tightness due to an unstable joint, of which the muscle is now trying to stabilize the joint. When this happens, the fascia (think of that thin layer of tissue that covers a chicken breast) covering the muscle also becomes tight, and the cutaneous/superficial nerves that pierce through the fascia have a harder time moving through it comfortably, and essentially becomes pinched. This can cause an irritating pain that lingers, and can be worse with certain movements.

For instance, if you have cluneal neuralgia you may notice standing from a bent over position, or leaning backwards can cause more aching pain in your low back or glute region. And if you have meralgia paresthetica, you may feel a burning or stabbing sensation felt on your outer thigh, that can extend down to your knee.

Perineural injections can help because they act as a nutritive to nerve cells, to give them some of the basic building blocks to heal themselves and reduce inflammation, while increasing nerve protection. You will often feel the effects of the injections within 5-20 minutes, so it is fast-acting.

Anatomy of Nerves in Human Body

Perineural injections can be beneficial for:

· Meralgia paresthetica

· Thoracic outlet syndrome

· Cluneal neuralgia

· Sciatica

· And more…

Symptoms for these conditions can include:

· Burning or stabbing on the outside of the thigh

· Numbness or tingling down and arm or leg

· Burning, stabbing or chronic tenderness of the low back and glutes

· Burning or zapping pain of the back of the head or neck

· And more….

If nerve pain is due to sciatica, for example, perineural therapy can be used in conjunction with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or extra-cellular vesicles (ECV). While the PRP or ECV are healing the area of nerve impingement, adding superficial perineural injections a couple weeks later can further reduce nerve inflammation. And since these injections are superficial, the treatment is quick, easy, and patients experience very little discomfort with almost immediate relief.

So if you’re dealing with any of the issues listed above, or have a lingering burning, stabbing, or tingling pain? Then come to see us at Chamber’s Clinic for relief.

Testimonials

“After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, I decided to seek independent advice and possible treatment in Arizona. He helped me digest the mountains of information and advice that I’d received from well-meaning naturopaths, urologists, family physicians and friends, as well as the multitude of reading that I had done on the subject. I recommend that you contact him if you find yourself in this dilemma. To this day, we continue to rely on his advice.

*** P.S. I am now 12 months free of cancer!”

“I first met Dr. Psenka after I finished my 3rd round of chemo for metastatic breast cancer. Our initial interview lasted over and hour and Dr. Psenka acted as though he would stay there all day if that is what it took to get all my questions answered. He has an incredible grasp of the mechanics of my disease and was very informative on what immune support, nutrition. and treatment he would recommend. I wish I would have started with his regime at the onset of my breast cancer, as I feel the outcome would have been different. I am stable now and my last PET showed no activity in my bone lesions. The nutritional support has kept me as healthy as one could be having the chemo/radiation that I’ve had. I work full time and lead and active life. I see my oncologist regularly, as well as Dr. Psenka. I feel this gives me the best advantage I am going to have to survive. I would encourage anyone with an early diagnosis of cancer to consider alternative therapies along with their chemo. Dr. Psenka and his staff are a great team and a remarkable resource to help anyone through this difficult diagnosis.”

I appreciated that Dr. Psenka was unhurried and happy to spend as much time as was needed to discuss our concerns, answer as many questions as came up, and explain his philosophy and approach to treating YOU. He was approachable and listened… rather than just talked/lectured. I get the feeling that he’s always thinking head of the “what if’s” and “how to’s”. I know one thing for sure… I would want him on my team!” -from a friend of a patient who participated in the initial consultation”
